Habib Ahmad is a scientist from Pakistan , currently Professor of Genetics and vice-chancellor of Hazara University〔http://www.hu.edu.pk/oldwebsitehu/webtest/vc_message1.php〕 Mansehra, Pakistan.〔()〕() He is ranked among the most privileged scientists of the country. He has served both nationally and internationally reputed organizations including WWF-Pakistan, Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan Agricultural Research Council before joining Hazara University as a professor in March 2005. He started his carrier as a scientific officer by joining National Agricultural Research Center Islamabad on February 2, 1986. Where he made valuable contributions toward the establishment of cytogenetics laboratory that grew later into Cytogenetics Program of international repute. As technical coordinator in WWF, he introduced the discipline of Ethnobotany at the university level, which is growing at quantum rate and contributing a lot to the conservation of natural resources of Pakistan. Since 2005, Dr. Habib Ahmad has been an integral part of Hazara University and is playing a critical role in the developmental matters of the University. As Dean Faculty of Science, he has provided a platform for academic leadership and excellence in teaching and research. Further, his immense role to strengthen Hazara University through capacity building of the young faculty as well as students and to prepare them to compete at the global level is inevitable. Establishment of new academic departments like Botany, Genetics, Zoology, Bioinformatics, Center for Human Genetics and giving them international recognition are the ultimate contributions of Dr. Habib Ahmad, and his these services continues till this day. Over the recent years, he has published more than 200 research papers in peer reviewed international journals and 22 books addressing our national concerns. It is worthwhile to mention that Dr. Habib Ahmad has successfully supervised 9 PhDs and 98 MPhil scholars in the most challenging areas of life sciences. He has developed a high yielding rapeseed variety “Hasnain-2013” for enhancing edible oil production in Pakistan. Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved the variety for commercial cultivation. In addition, Dr. Habib Ahmad also has the credit of successfully introducing a new crop ''Pepino'' in Pakistan. To date, he has completed 13 research projects, worth millions of rupees and another seven research projects are ongoing under his complete or partial supervision. Research output of Dr. Habib Ahmad can be viewed on Google Scholar in the form of 248 articles, with 1120 citations, 19 h-index and 41 i-10 index. He has represented Pakistan in 15 international scientific forums and has the honour of being the first Muslim Scholar and Pakistani, who remained as a member on the Board of Directors, Society for Conservation Biology, USA. Services of Dr. Habib Ahmad have been widely acknowledged by the civil society through conferring him the Best Researcher of Award Hazara University 2006, Teacher of the Year 2007 by UNESCO/Ministry of Education Government of Pakistan, National Talent Award 2008, Best Performance Award-2011 and Productive Scientist Award for the year 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
